Dear Parent(s) / Guardian(s),
Welcome to grade 7 Math at École John McCrae. I would like to take this opportunity to welcome our new families to John McCrae Public School. I hope you have had an enjoyable and relaxing summer. The year ahead will be filled with many challenges and exciting opportunities, for you as parents, for me as a teacher, and for the students. I would like to provide you with some information about the upcoming school year.
My name is Mlle Gauvreau and I will be the teacher for your child’s homeroom. We will be located in room 205, where I will teach your child Math. This will also be the room where your child will eat lunch. The other subjects will be taught on a rotary basis as per the students’ schedule. Our team of teachers will work together closely throughout the year to help students develop their learning skills and reach their full potential academically and socially.
Important Information
School Supplies: ✓Geometry Set ✓Scientific Calculator
✓Pencils and Erasers ✓Ruler
✓Dry Erase Marker ✓Graph / Grid Paper
Agenda: Students have the responsibility of tracking their homework and long term assignments in their agenda (and they may ALSO do so with an electronic device). Homework and assignments that I assign will be posted on the board and on the class calendar (UGCloud). I am also trying out a Facebook page this year (JMC Intermediate Math). You may find useful information including the curriculum newsletter on this website. The website (which by now you have found) is http://ugdsb-jmc-mllegauvreau.weebly.com/.
Texts: Please remember that your student is responsible for his/her text book. It is recommended that they keep their textbook in their locker. If it is lost or damaged, he/she is responsible to pay the replacement charge of $60.00. A form has been sent home for you to verify that the information is correct regarding the condition of the book. Please make sure to look over the textbook before signing.
Homework: Students are expected to do homework regularly, whether it be finishing class work or working on long term assignments. Now is a great time to continue to develop good study habits. Reviewing material on a regular basis enables the student to avoid cramming the night before tests. Please refer to the John McCrae family handbook/calendar for suggested guidelines. I will also be assisting and encouraging your child to continue to be an organized, independent worker this year.
Extra Help: There is extra help offered for Grade 7 Math every cycle Day 2, 3, 4 and 5 in room 205 during the first recess (10:15 - 10:40am).
Evaluation: Teacher, Peer and Self-Evaluation
It is my belief that we are working together as partners in the education of your child. As partners, we should both be fully aware of your child’s progress.
Report Cards: Your child will receive a Progress Report in November, followed by parent/teacher interviews. Report Cards will go home in the beginning of February and the end of June.
Communication: Communication between parents and teachers is critical to student success. Please complete the last page of this letter with your e-mail address and have your child return it to school as soon as possible.
